The project
One real brief. Seven distinct creative voices.
Atla Box is ArtAtla's first tangible demonstration that human creative work can hold documented functional, commercial, and cultural value. The pilot will ask seven Chicago makers to create seven useful contributions to one physical edition.
Why now
Utility is part of creative value.
Automation has made questions about human skill newly visible. Atla Box uses that cultural moment as context—not a catastrophe claim—to explore what people should retain, practice, and value through objects made by human hands.

Survival / resilience
Useful without becoming generic.
Each maker will interpret a practical survival or resilience function through their own medium. The objects must remain functional, but seven makers should still feel like seven distinct creative voices.
Chicago creative lineage
History as a point of departure.
The project looks to Prairie School craft, New Bauhaus experimentation, Chicago Imagism, AfriCOBRA's visual optimism, mural traditions, and modernist structure — as inspiration, never as souvenir styling.

Atla Box asks what humans should never forget how to do.
Maker-set value
THE MAKER DECIDES WHAT THEIR WORK IS WORTH.
Atla Box is testing a maker-set value model. Artists are not being asked to squeeze their work into a predetermined wholesale price.
Each selected maker will propose the value of their contribution.
Final box economics will be developed around maker-set value, production, packaging, fulfillment, ArtAtla coordination, and applicable shipping and tax.
